Otaku Naval Ship Designer. It is about my ship drawings, my thought processes, and compromises (and, some judgments and mistakes that the real world might not allow, but which would be no problem in the fiction world)

These works are created by David Syes, and David Syes only. NO other parties have actively participated in the creation of my hobby, and, therefore, no other persons or agencies can lay claim to it. This era is NOT 1941 or 1944 or 1968, and there are NO state secrets, nuclear data, restricted data or the like here. NOR are there any concepts here that could not be arrived at by diligent, interested, or dedicated hobbyists or engineers or anyone who reads and compiles all the publicly-available journals and publications covering the weapons and defense industry players.

Additionally, these blueprints are not representative of any active, in-commission, in-service, or even decommissioned, or reserve status vessels or transferred vessels. Therefore, the fiction we write taking place aboard these ships will not facilitate outlaws, criminals, terrorists ("homegrown" or foreign), or the like in the commission of a crime against a REAＬship, and any claims to the contrary are deemed to be specious, illegitimate, politically-motivated, and punitive in nature if taken the extreme so as to harm or punish those involved with this project.

The  drawings seen on these sites are not the finished or "production" quality works. Although you may be able to copy them, this presentation is not full dissemination for copyright purposes, and therefore, when the actual drawings are released, copyright in full force will still remain with me. Other than a few snippets here and there, this site is the ONLY active, authorized place these drawings can be shown. I have NＯ aversion to shipbuilders evaluating my designs and contacting me about them.
 
That said, there are copyright restrictions or limitations I assert upon any individuals or entities or even governments:
 

  • If you want to build these, I ask that I be paid a per-vessel royalty in two parts, the first paid when it is decided that my plans will be mostly or partially used, and the second after the first steel is cut even if the hull is not actually laid down for several months or years. (Between the years 2005 to 2008, I estimate $25,000 per hull planned and authorized; then $25,000 for each hull for which first steel is cut (I don't think that is too greedy...)- even if the hull is not actually laid down for several months or years.)

 

  • My blueprints are NOT to be used for construction by nations who have no intention to internationally crew these ships; my blueprints are NOT to be used by nations which intend to claim them as national property; my ships are NOT to be built by nations angling  for "hegemony", "empire"...

 

  • Model builders, artists, and others wanting to render my works into tangible (paper, steel, aluminum, wood, glass, plastic, etc.) formats must seek my permission (terms can vary on a case-by-case basis, but disingenuousness will not be tolerated) prior to implementing my ideas

 

  • Ships built will be used for regional and international stabilization and not as instruments of "self-determination", "manifest destiny", "power projection" or other wanton "adventures" to be visited upon sovereign or developing or "weaker" nations

 

  • Fiction authors, game developers, academic institutions of naval architecture and others are not entitled to use the works for gain or marketing without prior permission; there are some basic intellectual property rights which must be understood, respected, and guarded before you can sign contracts with editors, publishers, distributors, and other parties

 

  • Fiction authors might be independent or might want to collaborate with other authors to (under an inexpensive, rights-recognizing arrangement) make use of my designs for entertainment in the paperback or digital reading realms. I am not seeking to strip authors of copyright of their plots or scenarios, but I or my designates will retain Intellectual Property rights over characters, vessel designs, software created by me, and so forth, so long as my works have no direct lineage from truthfully classified materials (but, since I had no duties or activities involving classified designs or concepts, that concern will not apply)


  • Fiction books created around this product/these outlines and ideas are encouraged to use NON-DRM media to distribute their stories to the greatest audience possible. I only want my ideas and products to reward or be of benefit to "GREAT" storytellers who have a world view beyond hegemony and who want readers to access their material. There can be thematic plots and twists, but no one nation will reign superior in my world; let's disseminate that view as widely as possible; let's not reduce readers to scofflaw status just trying to read a book


  • Fiction authors may feel free to write their works in "parts", or "episodes" so that they are under less pressure to complete a "full book" or work that spans hundreds of pages. This allows collaborative writers to exploit current world events much more adroitly and realistically. How you work out any compensation is between you. But, keep in mind the intellectual property issues at hand


  • Game developers may feel free to approach me, but my interest in certain matters will automatically disqualify only one or two companies and their direct or indirect partners, no matter how much money they may offer to you or to me; (I am not in this life for huge sums of money, other than what I need to pay my creditors and put food into my stomach and buy a few gizmos and donate to charitable causes); decrypted restatement: I am interested in using OPEN SOURCE OS-agnostic tools, methods; I am not interested in smoke-and-mirrors and companies that seek to absorb or lock-down creativity, intellectual property or kill off competition they deserve to have, nor am I interested in tools or software than cannot be inspected, fixed, and expanded at a whim or when needed, and which is mired in IP issues meant to wring from the developer every last penny the developer is presumed to be able to part with

   

  • Educational facilities may obtain a license to use these drawings as student theses or projects. An example of utility for students might be a case where the instructor divides the class into two, wherein one team stridently sets out to prove the hull cannot be built feasibly or made seaworthy for its intended mission profile


  •  I will NOT entertain being approached by any parties with bait-and-switch offers. I will take extreme displeasure with persons or entities or organizations that present to me any so-called contract that praises my work in page one and then later in page 5, para 2, clause 3 uses words to attempt to surreptitiously create scenarios to coopt or take co-ownership of my works

  • Other restrictions or options may be created or discussed in a fair-minded setting. All or some of my rights in my works may be licensed (non-exclusive) but NEVER surrendered
